When harvesting alfalfa forage, machines travel on the plants. Therefore wheel traffic characteristics are very important in minimizing soil compaction and damage to the forage stand. This presentation provides some background on soil compaction and some opportunities for forage producers to minimize the impact of wheel traffic.
